About Me

Tori Rushton on the cello at Ettington Park HotelI started studying the cello at 7. I had already begun to learn the guitar and piano at 5 years old. I continued at school and soon achieved the associated board exams grades 1-8 in cello and 1-6 in piano and guitar. My passion for the cello grew and I continued studying different techniques, playing in orchestras, performing chamber music and musicals. Through working with professional cellists and other musicians I also developed an interest in teaching.

I went to France in 1992 and studied at the Paris Conservatoire. I participated in many international music festivals in France and spent 10 years as principal cellist with L'orchestre Impromptu in numerous concerts in Paris. During this particularly creative period of my musical life I was also a member of l'orchestre Symphonique Francilien. This took me on an inspirational tour of thirteen Chateaux along the river La Loire.

Other types of music interest me so I joined and performed with a Parisian dance company and did recordings with some French Rock/World Music bands, performing live concerts in many theatres in and around the Paris region.

I came back to my home town Stratford-upon-Avon in 2003 and now play with the Warwickshire Symphony Orchestra conducted by Guy Woolfenden a well-known composer and musician at the RSC. I often play solo for the drinks receptions at weddings to create the right ambiance of background music and I teach cello to all ages and levels.
